During a press conference at the CONI Hall via FCInterNews, Marotta urged everyone to step up in a battle against this issue.

Unauthorized live streaming of football matches on illegal websites, social media, or apps has become a global problem.

Indeed, that’s been the subject of discussion for years, even though Serie A and other leagues have often struggled to handle it.

Meanwhile, clubs from Italy’s top flight rely heavily on broadcasting rights for revenue.

Therefore, the emergence of piracy has made broadcasters lose subscribers, leading to a significant loss of revenue.

In turn, lower TV deals mean less money for the clubs, decreasing their spending power in the transfer market.

Beppe Marotta is keen for authorities to deter piracy and protect the economic health of football.

Indeed, the Inter chief hopes heavy fines for those running or distributing illegal streams could be part of the solution.

“Piracy has caused, and continues to cause, serious damage to the football industry,” Marotta stated. “It’s time to say enough.

“This law, passed two years ago, will now be enforced against all irregularities.

“If before it was a yellow card, now it’s a red card.

“This is truly needed to rebalance the revenues of a system that’s constantly struggling.”

Long story short, piracy is bleeding Italian football dry.

As such, the league, government, and executives are pushing for relentless actions to protect Serie A’s future.

Achieving that feat could be the only way to save Italian football.

Unfortunately, Serie A clubs are financially weaker than the Premier League or La Liga.

Therefore, it’s needless to stress the importance of eradicating piracy as swiftly as possible.
