Cologne are actively looking to strengthen their attacking line, turning their focus towards Italy. According to Sky Italia, the Billy Goats have submitted an ambitious offer for Inter Milan’s highly-rated 18-year-old striker, Jamal Iddrissou.
Cologne’s initial proposal was structured as a loan deal featuring a €700.000 loan fee and an option to buy valued between €7m and €8m. However, the Nerazzurri swiftly rejected the bid. The reigning Serie A champions are unwilling to lose complete control over the Italian youth international, who famously faced Cologne’s youth squad in the UEFA Youth League round of 16 earlier this year.
Despite the initial rejection, negotiations are far from dead. Inter have countered with a modern, tiered buy-back model to keep a future foot in the door. Under this proposed agreement, if Cologne triggers their purchase option, Inter would retain a staggered buy-back clause, set at €15m in 2027, rising to €18m by 2028.
For Cologne sporting director Thomas Kessler, the Italian youth forward represents the perfect developmental backup to play behind starting striker Ragnar Ache. However, pulling off the deal will not be easy. The Billy Goats face stiff competition, with both Wolfsburg and Premier League side Brentford also keeping a close eye on the striker’s situation. Whether Cologne are willing to accept Inter’s buy-back demands to seal the deal remains to be seen, but the unique transfer formula offers a fascinating compromise for all parties.
