Inter Milan will once again have to contend with their ultimate bogey team, as Sassuolo are back in Serie A.
The Nerazzurri welcomed the Emilian side back in a tweet after their confirmed their promotion. But in truth, they’re hardly a team Inter will be looking to meeting again.
Inter Milan have enjoyed twelve months of respite.
In the previous decade since Sassuolo’s last promotion, the Nerazzurri had to contend with a truly horrific bogey team.
It is hardly unheard of for smaller teams to get results against the big names in Serie A.
But the hold that the Neroverdi seemed to have over Inter was something else entirely.
Season after season, Sassuolo just seemed to have Inter’s number.

Last season saw Sassuolo confirm their bogey status in almost absurd fashion.
Inter won the Serie A title last season, and did so as an utterly dominant force.
The Nerazzurri lost just two matches in the league over the entire campaign.
As it happened, both of these defeats came against their “kryptonite” Sassuolo.
But at the same time, in the same season that they beat Inter home and away, Sassuolo’s overall form took a nosedive.
Therefore, the Emilian club dropped down to Serie B.
But after one season languishing in the second division, Sassuolo back.
A draw yesterday between Mantova and Spezia confirmed mathematically that the Neroverdi will win promotion back to the top flight.
And for just about every Inter fan, this news has been welcome only in a purely ironic sense.
In reality, most Nerazzurri supporters will have felt a shudder of revulsion at the thought of having to face Sassuolo twice per season once again.
