Inter Milan have reportedly identified Lazio stalwart Ivan Provedel as the right profile to shore up their goalkeeping department.
The Nerazzurri are expected to part ways with Yann Sommer after three years of service. They were initially aiming to bring Guglielmo Vicario back to Italy, but they have recently opted against spending €20 million or more on the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, instead preferring to entrust Josep Martinez with the No.1 role.
The Spaniard joined Inter in the summer of 2014, completing a €14 million switch from Genoa. The 27-year-old has taken his game up a notch in recent months, overtaking Sommer in Cristian Chivu’s pecking order. Therefore, the management is looking to pair Martinez with an experienced understudy.
According to Tuttosport, David De Gea has been proposed as an option, but the Inter hierarchy prefers Provedel, considering him a more suitable profile for this particular role. The 32-year-old has been at Lazio since 2022, when he made the move from Spezia, but his contract will expire in June 2027.
The Podronone native has been out of action since March after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Provedel’s absence paved the way for Edoardo Motta’s meteoric rise.
The Bianconecelesti could be willing to confirm the 21-year-old in a starting role, while also realizing that Christos Mandas is unlikely to seal a permanent transfer to Bournemouth, so he could rejoin the squad in the summer.
As for Provedel, he was enjoying a positive campaign prior to his injury, especially after being reunited with Maurizio Sarri. He made 29 appearances across all competitions, conceding 30 goals and registering 12 clean sheets.
