Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti waxed lyrical about Cristian Chivu after Tuesday’s Coppa Italia win over Como.
During the latest episode of ‘Viva El Futbol,’ Zanetti discussed the Romanian manager’s impressive first season at San Siro, as reported by FCInterNews.
Cristian Chivu is on the brink of a historic maiden season at the club.
In addition to being one step away from winning the Serie A title, he has guided Inter into their first Coppa Italia final since 2023.
Furthermore, the Nerazzurri could clinch their 21st Scudetto already this weekend. Even if they don’t, it’s only a matter of time before they take Napoli’s place at the throne.
Meanwhile, Chivu could become the first Inter manager to win a prestigious domestic double since Jose Mourinho in 2010.
Despite his relative lack of experience in senior management, the former Parma boss has achieved major success in his debut season at San Siro.
“Cristian came through our youth system and is now in the first team,” Zanetti said. “Honestly, I’m very happy for him because I know the person first. A very intelligent guy who conveys a sense of belonging and strong values.
“It wasn’t easy, in his first experience with a team like ours; you know the pressure that comes with leading it.
“But with his work ethic, professionalism, and seriousness, he has done an extraordinary job. We hope to finish it in the best possible way.
“However, in a short time, he has managed to build a group that identifies with him and with Inter Milan, and it shows.
“Especially in difficult moments, he has always believed in what he’s doing, and when a team believes in its work, it becomes easier to reach the objective.
“Great credit to him, the staff, and the players who follow him.”
