Alessandro Bastoni is the centre-back most desired by FC Barcelona’s sporting management and coaching staff to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
The Catalan giants have been monitoring the Inter Milan defender for months now, waiting to begin definitive negotiations, both with the player and his club.
Now, an important development has taken place that effectively puts the international defender on the market as Inter are open to selling him.
And, according to reports in Italy, as relayed by SPORT, Inter Milan would be willing to negotiate offers starting at €70 million for Bastoni. It is a very high figure that could discourage some interested clubs.
Barcelona already know Inter’s financial demands, and this serves as an important starting point for potential negotiations. Internally, the Catalans consider the figure too high, although there is confidence that certain formulas could help reduce the final cost of the transfer.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, is maintaining contact with the player’s entourage and intends to move carefully rather than rushing the process.

For now, the La Liga champions that the defender is available on the market and will design a strategy with the aim of securing his signing.
Bastoni is also attracting strong interest from Liverpool, who possess far greater financial power. However, the Italian defender would reportedly prioritise a move to Barcelona if he decides to leave Inter.
In fact, the Italian international himself has already made several subtle gestures on social media to show his sympathy toward the Blaugrana club.
One possible approach Barcelona could consider is including a player in the transfer deal in order to reduce the overall fee. No specific names have yet been mentioned, but some Blaugrana players could be of interest to Inter.
Despite Bastoni being the absolute priority for the defensive reinforcement, Barcelona do not intend to lose control financially. All potential signings must fit within the club’s economic framework, which is why they are also considering alternative targets.
