Inter Milan take on Bologna in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final this Friday evening.
Cristian Chivu’s squad arrives with strong momentum from their Serie A summit position, though Bologna aims to shake off their latest league disappointment and build on their impressive record versus Inter—losing just once in the previous six clashes.
The Nerazzurri face absences among key players as Chivu manages a mounting injury list before his managerial debut in this Supercoppa tie. Experienced centre-back Francesco Acerbi stays out with a thigh issue, and right wing-back Denzel Dumfries remains sidelined post-ankle surgery, not due back until March.
Inter’s key Turkish playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu picked up a muscle problem in last week’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Liverpool and probably won’t feature from the outset, despite travelling to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Matteo Darmian rejoins the group after close to three months away.
Up top, Lautaro Martinez anchors the attack, the Argentine skipper boasting 12 goals this campaign amid excellent performances. He’s Inter’s record Supercoppa marksman, highlighting his vital role for Chivu.
To bolster numbers amid fitness worries, Chivu called up three youth academy talents: wing-back Matteo Cocchi, defender Simone Cinquegrano (21), and reserve keeper Alain Taho.
Possible Inter Milan starting XI: J. Martinez; Akanji, Bisseck, Bastoni; Henrique, Barella, Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez.
The match will kick off at 7pm BST on Friday, 19th December.
