Inter Player Ratings vs Torino: Bastoni & Thuram Outstanding | OneFootball

Cristian Chivu trounced Torino 5-0 at the start of the new Serie A season, handing new boss Cristian Chivu a perfect debut. A one-sided affair at Stadio San Siro highlighted Inter’s dominance from start to finish, with the Nerazzurri looking every bit like genuine title contenders.

Inter dominated proceedings from the start, creating several half-chances in the opening 15 minutes. Chivu’s side found a breakthrough in the 18th minute as Alessandro Bastoni met Nicolo Barella’s perfect corner-kick delivery at the near post and headed the ball past Franco Israel to make it 1-0.

Unwilling to rest on their laurels, Inter continued to push forward in numbers but had to wait until the 36th minute to put daylight between the sides. Summer signing Petar Sucic released Marcus Thuram in space with a defense-splitting pass. The Frenchman kept his composure and beat the Torino goalkeeper from an acute angle with a clinical finish.

The Nerazzurri could have entered the halftime break with a three-goal cushion, yet Francesco Acerbi and Sucic saw their efforts saved by Israel late in the first half. Inter started the second period in the same vein and tripled their lead through Lautaro Martinez.

Only a few minutes later, Thuram doubled his tally for the night with a fantastic header. Five minutes after replacing the French talisman, Ange-Yoan Bonny scored his first league goal for Inter to make it 5-0 midway through the second half.

Yann Sommer – 8/10

Despite being called into action three times in the first half, each save was routine for a goalkeeper of his caliber.

Alessandro Bastoni – 9/10

In addition to a spotless defensive performance, his towering header helped Inter unlock Torino’s stubborn defense, paving the way for a landslide victory.

Francesco Acerbi – 7/10

Like his defensive comrade, the veteran center-back had a superb game, neutralizing Giovanni Simeone’s impact in the final third. Unlucky not to score on the stroke of halftime.

Benjamin Pavard – 7/10

The Frenchman was equally impressive as he made Nikola Vlasic irrelevant, winning every duel down his flank and showcasing composure in possession. Added an assist early in the second half.

Federico Dimarco – 6/10

Harshly criticized for erratic showings during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Dimarco returned to his best at the beginning of 2025/26, even though his crosses atypically lacked precision.

Nicolo Barella – 8/10

The diminutive star once again proved his class with another midfield masterclass. His assist for Bastoni set the tone for Inter’s win, while his energy and vision dictated the tempo throughout.

Petar Sucic – 7/10

It was a remarkable Serie A debut for the Croatian starlet. Filled in for the suspended Hakan Calhanoglu, Sucic pulled all the strings from deep in midfield and picked up an assist.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6/10

Perhaps Inter’s weakest performer tonight, despite rarely giving the ball away!

Denzel Dumfries – 6/10

His overlapping runs added an extra dimension to Inter’s attacking play, but the final touch often let him down. However, he was exceptional on both ends of the pitch.

Marcus Thuram – 9/10

After an unsettling second half of last season, the French ace got the new campaign off to a stellar start. Besides the goals, he dominated his markers in nearly every duel and remained heavily involved in the build-up.

Lautaro Martinez – 7/10

Despite a relatively quiet first half, El Toro got on the scoresheet, taking advantage of a huge mistake from Torino’s backline to open his account for the season.
