Inter soar and break away at the top of the league, securing the first real gap in this season's title race. In the big match on matchday 29, in Bergamo, Simone Inzaghi's side beat Atalanta 2-0 in convincing fashion. It was a top performance from the Nerazzurri. Thuram hit the post early on and Inter dominated the first half for long spells. It was a fiercely contested match, with duels all over the field and energy expended by everyone. The deadlock was broken in the 54th minute - after a six minute stoppage due to a medical problem affecting a fan in the crowd - by Carlos Augusto: a perfectly positioned and precise header which flew into the goal from Calhanoglu's corner. The goal forced Atalanta to play all of their cards, but Gasperini could not find the winning solution as his side came up against a very solid Inter defence led by Acerbi.

The battle continued. Atalanta lost Ederson in the 81st minute who received two yellow cards for dissent: Inter made the most of this and made it 2-0 in the 87th minute through Lautaro. The match had a chaotic ending to it. Frattesi went really close to scoring a third for Inter while Bastoni received a second yellow card in stoppage time. But, Inter won and extended their lead at the top: three points ahead of Napoli and six ahead of Atalanta.
