Unsurprisingly, Inter had a near monopoly of the ball in the opening minutes, with Monza looking to keep it tight.

However, the champions struggled to truly test the hosts’ goal, not having a single shot on target in the first 20 minutes of action.

Lautoro Martínez had his side’s best chance, flashing a fierce curled shot past Stefano Turati’s post.

The Inter captain had another chance in the 36th minute, but he fired over after meeting Federico DiMarco’s pull back from the left-hand side.

Monza held firm throughout the first half, and, much to their credit, got to the break with the game still scoreless.

The second half started in scrappy fashion, but the hosts, who sat in 17th heading into the game, gradually got more of the ball, while Inter still couldn’t test their keeper.

Monza had chances of their own as the game moved towards its conclusion, and eventually took a shock with just nine minutes left.

Dany Mota was the scorer, heading home brilliantly from a Armando Izzo corner to send the home crowd wild.

Inter threw everything at them from here, and found an equaliser with just two minutes left through Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch defender tapped home at the back post after a cross deflected into his path.

Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t find a winner, and Monza held on for a well deserved point.
