Matchday 27 of Serie A sees the Nerazzurri take on Genoa at San Siro, a fixture with deep roots in the history of Italian football. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:45 CET on Saturday 28 February. The stats, past meetings and key players all point to a clash that promises intensity and entertainment, in keeping with Nerazzurri tradition.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

There have been 115 Serie A meetings between Inter and Genoa. The record favours the Nerazzurri, with 61 wins to the Rossoblù's 22, while 32 matches have ended in draws. Inter are unbeaten in their last 13 league encounters with Genoa (ten wins and three draws), scoring 33 goals (an average of 2.5 per game) and conceding just five in that period. Their dominance is also reflected in their attacking consistency, with goals in twelve of the last 13 matches against the Ligurian outfit.

Strong starts and defensive solidity have been key: in the 13 most recent meetings, Inter have scored 16 first-half goals while conceding only two before the interval. At San Siro, the streak is even more impressive: eleven consecutive Serie A wins over Genoa, including nine clean sheets. It's also the longest run of consecutive away defeats for the Rossoblù in the competition.

THE NERAZZURRI'S FORM

Cristian Chivu’s side are in sensational league form: 13 wins in their last 14 games (the other being a draw), 36 goals scored during that period, and seven consecutive Serie A victories – a streak not seen since January–March 2024, when they recorded ten wins in a row.

With 64 points from 26 matches, Inter could reach 67 points after 27 games for only the third time in their history, following the 2023/24 season (72 points) and 2006/07 (73). Contributions from the bench have been crucial: with goals from Mkhitaryan and Akanji against Lecce, Inter have now scored 10 goals from substitutes, the most of any team in Serie A in 2025/26.

The Nerazzurri’s dominance on set-pieces is also evident: 15 goals from corners, more than any other side in Europe's five major leagues this season. They also lead the league for headed goals this campaign, with 14.

DIMARCO, PRECISION AND QUALITY

Federico Dimarco has been outstanding, providing at least one assist in each of the last five league games, for a total of eight assists over that period. The No.32 could become the first player to set up a teammate to score in six consecutive Serie A appearances since the 2004/05 season. With 13 assists this season, Dimarco has set a new record for an Inter player in a single Serie A campaign since 2004/05, while also equalling the highest total for a defender in a single top-flight season in that period (13, previously achieved by Massimo Oddo in 2005/06).

PIO ESPOSITO, THE NUMBERS BEHIND HIS GROWTH

Francesco Pio Esposito has scored four goals in this season and is aiming to join a select group of Inter players: in the three-points-for-a-win era, only Nicola Ventola, Obafemi Martins, Mario Balotelli and Mateo Kovačić have managed to score at least five goals in a Serie A season before turning 21. These numbers underline the forward's growth.

MKHITARYAN, EXPERIENCE AND QUALITY

After scoring the decisive goal against Lecce, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has become, since his arrival in Serie A in 2019/20, one of just four players to register at least 35 goals and 35 assists in the league, alongside Domenico Berardi, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Rafael Leão.

OPPONENTS: GENOA

Genoa head into the clash in 14th place in the league, having collected 27 points from six wins and nine draws (eleven defeats). Daniele De Rossi's side have scored 32 goals and conceded 37. In their last five games, they've earned seven points, beating Bologna and Torino and drawing with Cremonese. Their two defeats came against Lazio and Napoli, both by a 3-2 scoreline. Genoa have kept clean sheets in their last two league matches (against Cremonese and Torino) and could record three consecutive Serie A clean sheets for the first time since December 2024 – the third of which arrived at the Meazza, against AC Milan. The Rossoblù have drawn three of their last four away Serie A fixtures, matching the number of draws they had in the previous eleven (W3, L5).

Genoa are expected to line up in a 3-5-2 formation, with Bijlow in goal, Marcandalli, Ostigard and Vasquez in defence, Sabelli, Malinovskyi, Frendrup, Ellertsson and Messias in midfield, and the attacking duo of Vitinha and Colombo up front.
