FC Bayern currently have a real luxury in the center of defence. Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah are the new duo of choice for the future, with Minjae Kim and Hiroki Ito lurking behind them as further top-class options. However, it is precisely this competitive situation that could bring movement to a personnel issue in the summer
As reported in the BILD podcast„Bayern-Insider“, there is concrete interest from the Premier League in Minjae Kim. However, the South Korean international himself is not pushing for a move. On the contrary: Kim continues to feel comfortable in Munich and has apparently accepted his role as a challenger
Even Vincent Kompany’s decision not to nominate him for the matchday squad in the 5-1 win over Hoffenheim did not upset Kim. Internally, this measure was classified as a pure squad decision anyway – with only 20 places allowed, even established players have to make way if everyone is fit
What is interesting, however, is that according to the report, the transfer considerations are more likely to come from the club. While Kim is dealing with the situation in a professional sporting manner and is not forcing a departure, FC Bayern is apparently prepared to listen to offers in the summer
This fits in with the current squad structure. With the extension of Upamecano until 2030 and the signing of Tah, Munich have created planning security at the absolute top level. At the same time, they want to keep an eye on the salary structure and react flexibly to market opportunities

Kim was a desired transfer from Napoli in 2023 and was originally intended to take on a leading role. Under Kompany, however, the hierarchy in central defense is clearly defined. Tah and Upamecano are considered first choice, Ito brings additional flexibility – Kim is in internal competition
However, there is no question of a definite departure. The 29-year-old feels comfortable at FC Bayern, accepts his role and continues to work professionally. A transfer would only be considered if an attractive offer is received and all sides are convinced
However, it is also clear that should a Premier League club get serious, Bayern would be willing to talk. In a summer in which several strategic decisions are made at Säbener Straße, this personnel issue could also gain momentum.
