Bodo/Glimt’s remarkable Champions League run gathered even more momentum on Wednesday night as they stunned Inter Milan 3-1 in Norway to take a two-goal advantage into the second leg.

Inter arrived in the Arctic Circle as Serie A leaders and one of the most experienced sides left in the competition, but they were outworked after the break by a Bodo team still in their domestic off-season.

The Norwegian champions started with energy and confidence on their artificial surface, and they were rewarded after 20 minutes through Sondre Brunstad Fet.

Kasper Waarts Hogh produced the clever touch, backheeling into Fet’s path, and he finished with composure to ignite the home crowd.

Inter responded with a spell of pressure and went close through Matteo Darmian, who struck the post as they tried to settle the tie.

Nicolo Barella also had a clear sight of goal, but shot straight at goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.

The equaliser arrived on the half-hour mark when Inter finally turned pressure into a goal. Barella’s cross caused chaos in the area, and Francesco Pio Esposito reacted quickest to turn and fire into the net.

Inter threatened to go in front before half-time, with Lautaro Martinez also striking the woodwork as the visitors pushed for control.

However, Bodo carried the greater intensity after the interval, and the tie swung decisively in their favour just after the hour.

Hogh was the provider again, sliding the ball left for Jens Petter Hauge, who smashed a superb left-footed strike into the top corner.

Inter were still reeling when Bodo struck a third only three minutes later. Ole Didrik Blomberg broke in behind and squared for Hogh to tap home from close range.

The Serie A side struggled to respond in the closing stages, with Bodo defending their lead with discipline and still looking dangerous whenever they broke forward.

Yann Sommer was forced into action to prevent the scoreline becoming even more painful, but the hosts did not need a fourth to complete another famous European night.

The result ended Inter’s six-match winning run in all competitions and leaves them facing a difficult task in the return leg in Milan.

Bodo will travel to Italy believing that another upset is within reach, having already beaten Manchester City and Atletico Madrid in this season’s competition.
