Everton have reportedly joined the race for Ipswich Town target Callum Wilson this January

Ipswich Town seemingly face fresh competition in the race to sign Callum Wilson, with talks to terminate his contract at West Ham ongoing, and Premier League side Everton are taking an interest in the 33-year-old.

According to TEAMtalk, Everton have joined the race for Wilson's signature this month, which will come as a blow to Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys, whilst they sit well within contention for automatic promotion at this stage in the season, as expected, have somewhat struggled in front of goal, particularly their striking options.

George Hirst, Ivan Azon, and Chuba Akpom have scored just ten goals in 60 league appearances between them this season, accounting for less than a quarter of the side's current goal total of 42.

Kieran McKenna's side appear to be in the market for a new addition in the final third this January, with Wilson having been identified as an option as he prepares to leave West Ham.

Indeed, as per TEAMtalk, Everton have identified Wilson as a potential option this January to fix their own striker woes, with Thierno Barry and Beto both struggling in front of goal this campaign.

Though the Toffees have also identified Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri as another potential fix for David Moyes' centre forward role, giving Ipswich some hope in the pursuit of the former Newcastle United and Bournemouth forward.

Wilson, who will be 34 at the end of the season, has spent the first half of the campaign with West Ham United, only for the arrivals of Pablo Felipe and Valentin Castellanos to see him deemed surplus to requirements.

Now poised to become a free agent once more, Wilson would add a wealth of experience to any side he joins, with over 250 appearances in the Premier League, just shy of 100 appearances in the EFL, and nine caps for England.

He could be exactly what Ipswich and McKenna need to get them over the line for automatic promotion this season, and his addition would likely be an excellent one for his experience alone.

Wilson is not the only target at Ipswich Town this winter, however, with the Tractor Boys reportedly interested in bringing in the likes of Kendry Paez on loan from Chelsea, whilst rumours of a move for Fulham attacking-midfielder Tom Cairney have also been circulating.

Whilst the Tractor Boys have not necessarily struggled for goals this season, with their wide attackers, namely Jaden Philogene and Jack Clarke, being especially proficient, McKenna doesn't appear to be fully content with his options, hence the link to Wilson.

Ipswich lack a certain degree of experience in the squad, having let go of the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo, Marcus Harness, and Cameron Burgess in the summer, and not having replaced them.

Paez would be another youthful, exciting option in the ranks, though Cairney and Wilson would add some much-needed experience to the side, which could prove to be exactly what they are currently missing.

Though if Ipswich want to bring Wilson to Suffolk this winter, they now must beat Everton in the pursuit of the Englishman, something which remains to be seen whether they can achieve.
