Striker Mehdi Taremi has won praise for his performance leading the line for Inter Milan in yesterday’s Serie A win over Lecce.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hail the 32-year-old for an efficient display that hardly looked like that of a player who’s only been at Inter for a few weeks.

Taremi made his first Serie A start yesterday.

The Iranian had come off the bench in last weekend’s draw against Genoa. His cameo proved to be decisive as he played an important role in Inter’s second goal of the match.

But yesterday, Taremi got the chance to play from the first minute.

The former Porto striker lined up alongside Marcus Thuram in attack.

Finding chemistry with Thuram was never going to be easy for Taremi. The pair of strikers had never played together in a preseason friendly.

The two strikers in Inter’s 3-5-2 system need to have a certain chemistry.

But in the view of the Gazzetta, Taremi gave the impression that he has already started to get on the same wavelength as Thuram.

Neither Taremi nor Thuram were the decisive players in yesterday’s win.

Rather, it was Matteo Darmian and Hakan Calhanoglu who got on the scoresheet in the 2-0 victory.

But the two strikers had a vital influence in Inter’s dominance of possession and territory.

That’s not necessarily surprising from Thuram, who has had a year to settle in. But Taremi looked no less assured than the Frenchman.

The 32-year-old’s movement both inside and outside of the penalty area made life difficulty for Lecce’s centre-backs consistently.

And Taremi’s technique never let him down. His linkup play kept Inter’s midfielders and wide players in the match.

It may not have been the most eye-catching of San Siro debuts from Taremi.

But the important thing is that the team did not look to have lost much with Lautaro Martinez absent.
