One of the areas of the Manchester City squad that will need strengthening in the future is the right-back position. Kyle Walker is coming to the end of an illustrious career. This season has been a battle for the England international. Rico Lewis and Manuel Akanji can also play in the position but it does appear that Manchester City need another right-back. Perhaps it could be a position they look to replenish in the January transfer window.
Now a new report suggests that Manchester City have an interest in signing Juventus defender Nicolo Savona. Savona has impressed for Juventus so far this season. But as impressive as the young Italian defender has been could he be a realistic January target for Pep Guardiola’s side? That’s debatable as Savona is a Juventus academy graduate and only recently signed a new deal with the Serie A giants.
Srinivas Sadhanand has relayed a report from Graeme Bailey for TBR Football that Nicola Savona could be on Manchester City’s shopping list in January. The report indicates that the young defender has impressed Manchester City’s scouts. Furthermore, the TBR Football report suggests that Manchester City believe Savona could play at right-back or centre-back in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Nicola Savona has impressed for Juventus this season. He has risen through the ranks of the Juventus youth system to become a valuable member of their first team. Watching him play you can see why Manchester City would potentially be interested in signing the young Italian defender. Savona is a versatile player and is good defensively and technically. He is young but his talent is obvious.
But it appears to be unlikely that Manchester City could sign Savona in January as the TBR Football suggests. The young defender only signed a contract extension with Juventus in August of 2024. He looks to be a player that Juventus will look to build their defence around. So, while Manchester City may appreciate Savona’s talents, it just doesn’t seem that a January move for the defender is possible right now for Manchester City.
Nicola Savona is the latest player to be linked with the world champions as a potential target. But while they may admire the young defender’s talents it just doesn’t seem to a transfer that appears feasible at this point in time.
