England continue their qualification campaign for the 2027 Women’s World Cup tonight against Iceland at the City Ground, with Sarina Wiegman’s side looking to make it a perfect start to qualifying with another big win.
The Lionesses beat Ukraine 6-1 in their opening qualification match earlier in the week, with each of Alessia Russo, Georgia Stanway and Jess Park scoring a brace in an impressive win in Turkey.
And that result means that they’re in a good position to make a perfect start to qualifying ahead of facing Iceland. The minnows lost 3-0 to Spain in their qualifying opener, but England will need to be as ruthless as usual as they look to keep a 100 per cent record ahead of facing the world champions in their own qualifier in March.
England’s game against Iceland kicks off at 12.30pm GMT on Saturday 7 March at the City Ground in Nottingham, England.
Viewers in the UK can watch the game on ITV1, with coverage starting at 12pm GMT. Fans can also stream the match on ITVX.
Alex Greenwood missed Tuesday’s game with a minor muscle injury and after continued assessment she has withdrawn from the squad and there could be changes to the starting XI as the likes of Lauren James, Chloe Kelly and Lucy Bronze push for starts.
Laura Blindkilde Brown was given a rare start and could expect to be replaced, while Georgia Stanway could be deployed deeper to make way for the likes of James or Kelly.
Up front, Alessia Russo has certainly done enough to keep here starting spot, though Aggie Beevor-Jones could feature this time round.
England XI: Hampton; Le Tissier, Williamson, Wubben-Moy, Hinds; Walsh, Stanway; Park, James, Hemp; Russo.
Iceland XI: Runarsdottir; Arnardottir, Viggosdottir, Sigurdardottir, Heidarsdottir; Hermannsdottir, Vilhjamsdottir, Antonsdottir; Eiriksdottir, Jessen, Jonsdottir.
Sarina Wiegman's side were in great form in front of goal and will be eager to make it two wins in a row in World Cup qualifying with betting sites favouring them to get the job done.
