With the January transfer window now open it is expected that Manchester City will be big players in the transfer market. Pep Guardiola’s squad is in desperate need of reinforcements. A look at City’s squad suggests that there is a case for the world champions to sign a defender, a midfielder and an attacking player in January. Has Manchester City now narrowed their search for another attacking player down to a choice of three? A new report indicates that that could be the case.
Jack Gaughan has reported for the Daily Mail that Omar Marmoush, Liam Delap and Jonathan David are looming as transfer targets for Manchester City. As per Gaughan’s report Manchester City has a buyback clause in Liam Delap’s contract with Ipswich Town. Jonathan David has six months remaining on his current deal with Lille. Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Omar Marmoush has impressed this season for the Bundesliga side. He could add another dimension to City’s play.
All three of the players listed in Gaughan’s report would add something different to Manchester City’s attacking play. Each player has their strengths which would complement what Manchester City already have. Erling Haaland is in desperate need of support up front and any one of the three players listed could play that role.
In the case of Liam Delap, Manchester City would know what they are getting if they moved for Delap. He starred in City’s Elite Development System before signing with Ipswich Town last summer. But his game has gone to another level this season with Ipswich. He has scored 7 goals this season for the Tractor Boys. But his power, pace, and hold-up play have gone to another level this season. That’s a credit to Delap and it’s clear to see why City may be tempted to bring him back to the Etihad.
Jonathan David has taken his game to another level this season. The Canadian international has starred for Lille throughout this season. He has scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for Lille this season. David also only has six months remaining on his current contract. He may be a player that Manchester City could sign this month based on his contract situation and his obvious quality.
Omar Marmoush has starred so far this season for Eintracht Frankfurt. He has scored 18 goals and added 12 assists in 24 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. The Egyptian international is also a versatile player who can play up front or on a wing. With his pace, delivery and finishing ability, he’d add something different to City’s play, especially in the final third. It is included in Jack Gaughan’s report that Marmoush may be a move to watch for from Manchester City in January. Based on his strong play for Eintracht Frankfurt he’d immediately improve City’s attacking stocks.
It appears that it is down to a choice of three players for Manchester City to add something upfront. It is a pressing need for Pep Guardiola’s side based on their performances this season. If they could sign one of Liam Delap, Jonathan David or Omar Marmoush it would be a massive win for the world champions. Now we wait to see if they will move for one of the players listed above in the coming weeks.
