Leeds United expect Isaac Schmidt to leave Elland Road permanently this summer, with two Swiss clubs circling.

The 26-year-old joined from St Gallen in 2024 for around £2.5m on a four-year deal, but made only 14 appearances, 12 in the Championship, before a 2025/26 loan. He did not start a league game under Daniel Farke.

At Werder Bremen last season he started six Bundesliga matches and came on 13 times. He scored on debut, added no further goals or assists, and the club, six points clear, declined a permanent.

Basel and Young Boys have shown interest and a permanent split is anticipated. They finished fifth and sixth in the Swiss Super League’s Championship group last season, missing out on Europe.

Fellow loanee Max Wober’s Bremen spell was wrecked by injury, limiting him to two Bundesliga outings, and no option was taken. “So far, relatively little [discussions on the future]. We'll see how things develop.” He told DAB Der Audiobeweis.

“I'm assuming I'll return for pre-season training as normal.” He is expected to move on this summer, though his situation may be complicated by last season’s lay-off.

After exercising a relegation release clause in 2023, he returned for 2024/25 but two knee operations limited him to eight league games.

Separately, Harry Gray’s switch to Sheffield Wednesday is close and due within days. Leeds also view Southampton midfielder Shea Charles as a priority target after two unsuccessful bids.
