Isaac Schmidt is expected to leave Leeds United permanently this summer, with Basel and Young Boys showing interest. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the club anticipate a clean break.
The 26-year-old joined from St Gallen in summer 2024 for about £2.5m on a four-year deal, but made 14 appearances, 12 in the Championship. He did not start a league game under Daniel Farke and spent 2025/26 out on loan.
At Werder Bremen he started six Bundesliga matches and came on 13 times, scoring on debut before adding no further goals or assists. Bremen finished six points clear of relegation and declined a permanent deal.
Max Wober was also on loan at Bremen, but knee problems wrecked his season and he made two Bundesliga appearances. Werder did not take up an option and he is expected to depart Leeds, although his situation is complicated.
“So far, relatively little [discussions on the future]. I'm pretty sure I won't be the most sought-after player at Leeds United anymore. That much is clear to me. We'll see how things develop.”
He was speaking to DAB Der Audiobeweis.
“I'm assuming I'll return for pre-season training as normal,” he added. “And then we'll see what happens next, what Leeds’ plan is, what's happening in the transfer market. Things can change drastically in football. So I'll just take it as it comes.”
Harry Gray’s move to Sheffield Wednesday is all but done, with confirmation expected within days, and Leeds still pursuing priority target Shea Charles after two rejected bids.
