Issa Doumbia opted to join Sporting this summer, and his agent has explained the decision.
According to Glorioso 1904, Cheikh Sadibou Fall said Benfica were among the clubs pursuing the Italian midfielder formerly of Venezia, then outlined why Doumbia chose Alvalade.
Sporting were the club they had targeted, with the club’s standing in European competition, rich history and an academy that produced Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo cited as reasons.
The club’s persistence was decisive, with interest dating back to December and strong backing from the head coach and across the hierarchy.
In 2025/26, for Venezia, the 22-year-old, valued at 20 million euros, played 38 competitive matches, 37 in Serie A and one in the Italian Cup, totalling 3,159 minutes with 10 goals and five assists.
