Viktor Gyokeres says it is hard to put into words just how delighted he is feeling after scoring a late winner to send Sweden to the World Cup.

Sweden beat Poland 3-2 in their qualification play-off to book their place in north America this summer, with Gyokeres scoring an 88th minute winner.

“It’s hard to put into words how I’m feeling right now,” he said after the game.

“It’s extremely nice, a relief as well. We gave it our all on the pitch, both physically and mentally.

“It’s hard to put into words but of course we look forward to the World Cup and to do it in this way is fantastic.

“It means everything, the way we do it, when maybe many believed we wouldn’t make it given the situation we were in.

“It is fantastic to be able to do it.”

His Arsenal team-mate Riccardo Calafiori did not fare as well, however, as Italy were denied qualification for the tournament after losing to Bosnia & Herzegovina on penalties.

Christian Norgaard’s Denmark also failed to qualify, losing on penalties to Czechia in their play-off final.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli netted his fourth goal for Brazil in their 3-1 win over Croatia.

Max Dowman also hit the headlines again, scoring a stunning solo goal for England U19s as they thrashed Portugal 6-0.

And both Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri were on form for England’s Under-21s, with Nwaneri netting twice in a 4-1 win over Moldova.
