We were writing only this morning about Nicolas Jackson and his move to Bayern Munich.
The striker made some comments this morning about his departure which made it sound like he is never planning on coming back to Stamford Bridge, even though he’s only on a loan deal. We speculated that the triggers to make his loan permanent must be very achievable if he’s already acting like he’s made the move.
In fact, it couldn’t be more different.
Fabrizio Romano quotes Hoeness on Jackson.
Bayern big wig Uli Hoeness has been speaking about the deal today and has been the first to reveal the permanent transfer clause:
“There will definitely not be a permanent contract. That only happens if he plays 40 games from the start, it will never happen”, Hoeness is quoted as saying on Germany TV by Fabrizio Romano.
With Harry Kane in place as their number one striker, we’d be surprised if Jackson makes more than 20 starts for the German giants this season, let alone 40. Let’s not forget, even if Jackson gets to 39 appearances in April, and Bayern don’t want him, they can simply stop using him.
Hoeness also revealed that Jackson and his agent Ali Barat paid €3m towards the loan fee to Chelsea, who received €16.5m in total for the season.
This not only makes Jackson’s comments more strange in hindsight, it also changes the balance of the whole deal. Chelsea sold off a really important player in Jackson, and while it was an understandable move for the ridiculous €80m or so we were getting for the full package, losing him for a season for €13.5m just doesn’t seem smart at all, especially with Liam Delap out injured right now.
This now looks like a better deal for Bayern than Chelsea.
