Inter Milan sounded out Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup this summer in case other midfielders left during the window.

This according to Italian transfer reporter Matteo Moretto, via FCInterNews. He reveals that the 23-year-old was on the radar of Roma as well.

Inter Milan were linked with no shortage of midfielders during the summer transfer window.

In the end, though, the Nerazzurri signed Petar Sucic and Andy Diouf, and no others.

In the meantime, Inter lost just one midfielder from the senior squad. Kristjan Asllani joined Torino on loan towards the end of the transfer window.

Therefore, it would have been tough for Inter to fit any more midfielders in the squad.

Particularly considering that players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Piotr Zielinski stayed.

However, had the Nerazzurri offloaded any other midfielders, then they may very well have decided to bolster their ranks with a new midfield signing.

One name that has reportedly been on Inter’s shortlist in midfield for some time is Genoa’s Morten Frendrup.

The Dane has had three seasons at Genoa. Two of these have come in Serie A.

And particularly after the Grifone came back up to the top flight, it would be fair to say that Frendrup has impressed.

Therefore, transfer links have emerged between the Genoa midfielder and a number of big clubs in Serie A.

Italian transfer reporter Matteo Moretto explained that “Over the summer, [Frendrup] was being sounded out by Inter.”

The Nerazzurri “considered him as a replacement for players possibly leaving.”

“But also by Roma,” Moretto noted. “Roma made an inquiry about Pessina, but Frendrup was on the Giallorossi’s list as well.”

“Inter made an inquiry about him at the start of the transfer window,” Moretto explained.
