Italy coach Luciano Spalletti feels that Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi gives the team a lot with his energy and positional instincts.

Spalletti praised Frattesi in a press conference after Italy’s Nations League win over Israel yesterday, as reported by FCInterNews. He said that the 24-year-old is “always in the right place at the right time.”

Frattesi started for Italy in both of their Nations League matches during the international break.

Moreover, the 24-year-old managed to get on the scoresheet in both instances.

Frattesi has scored seven goals for Italy now. And six of them have come under Spalletti as coach.

That means that Frattesi is the Azzurri’s top scorer under their current coach.

And Frattesi has not only brought goals to this Italy team.

The former Sassuolo midfielder has really become the player who sets the tone in midfield. He embodies the kind of direct, high-energy style that Spalletti seems to want to institute.

Frattesi has particularly gotten the chance to shine for Italy in the absence of his Inter teammate Nicolo Barella.

Barella has been absent from the national team over the break after undergoing a nose operations.

That has meant that Italy coach Spalletti has gone with Frattesi and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali as the two box-to-box players in his midfield trio.

Meanwhile, Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci has shone in the holding midfield role for the Azzurri.

But it has been Frattesi who has truly shone.

After yesterday’s match, Italy coach Spalletti said that “Even when he doesn’t get himself into the attacking moves, he gets through a lot of work for the team.”

“He helps the team to win superiority,” the coach said of Frattesi.

“He has the ability to get himself into the final third. He’s always being found in the right place at the right time.”

Spalletti called the Inter midfielder “An important player for us.”
