Fernandez was suspended for two games for comments he made about his future during the international break.
The 25-year-old has subsequently apologised to the Liam Rosenior, his team-mates and the club, with a line now seemingly drawn under the incident.
It had been reported Chelsea players wanted Rosenior to overturn the ban, but that isn’t going to happen, but Fernandez will be available for next weekend’s game against Manchester United.
The way Chelsea have dealt with the situation has been met with a mixed reaction, and Cole has labelled the whole situation as a mess.
“It’s a difficult one. It’s not so much the punishment’s right, it’s the fact that it’s the second time this has happened now [with Enzo Fernandez], the club has got to take a stand,” he said as quoted by Four Four Two.
“I must admit, I don’t know if this is the right model. I haven’t thought of a better way [of dealing with Fernandez], so it’s a mess, it really is.”
