Stewart Downing has been talking about Newcastle United, the striker situation, including of course the Alexander Isak position in all of this.

The former Aston Villa player thinks that Ollie Watkins would ‘definitely be a good signing’ for Newcastle United to replace Alexander Isak.

With 100 Premier League starts and 50 goals across the last three seasons, there is no doubt Watkins is a quality Premier League scorer.

However, Ollie Watkins turns 30 in December and also the question of whether Aston Villa would sell.

Indeed, Stewart Downing declares; ‘I’ve got a feeling that Newcastle United sell Alexander Isak and then the window shuts and they don’t get anybody in.’

I think of all the possibilities, that one definitely won’t happen. No way Newcastle United will sell their main goalscorer without any replacement having come in.

“I think Ollie Watkins would definitely be a good signing for Newcastle United to replace Alexander Isak.

“I like Ollie Watkins. I think he’s done really well.

“There were the links with Arsenal last year and it sounded like he wanted to go and Villa were probably happy for him to go. I don’t know why that didn’t get over the line because I actually thought if Arsenal get him, that’s a good signing. The way they play, obviously runs the channels, he’s getting in behind, gets a goal.

“If Newcastle can get him, then you’re thinking, well, hang on a minute, it might not be so bad, but I’ve got a feeling that Newcastle United sell Alexander Isak and then the window shuts and they don’t get anybody in.

“Who knows, Watkins could end up at Man U too. You never know late on, and then Man U all of a sudden become a lot better team than they are so it’s difficult, isn’t it?

“Newcastle have got to be strong. They’ve got to say, Isak’s not leaving. Or if he leaves, we have to go out and get Watkins because we have to replace Isak.
