Jack Colback retires a month after joining level eight Anstey Nomads | OneFootball

Jack Colback has retired from football, a month after signing for level eight side Anstey Nomads. The 36-year-old ends a 481-game professional career.

The midfielder confirmed the decision in a statement, expressing gratitude for representing Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queen’s Park Rangers. He reflected on highs, lows and promotions, and said he looks forward to the next chapter.

Colback first arrived at the City Ground in January 2018 after falling out of favour under then Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez. He returned for the 2018/19 campaign under Aitor Karanka, playing 39 times as Forest finished ninth.

After a year back at Newcastle, he rejoined Forest in summer 2020 under Sabri Lamouchi. He later featured under Chris Hughton and became a key figure as Steve Cooper lifted the club from the foot of the Championship into the Premier League, often at left back.

Colback saw limited action in the 2022/23 top-flight season, with Cooper preferring Orel Mangala, Ryan Yates and Cheikhou Kouyate in midfield. He signed a two-year deal with QPR in 2023, then was released last summer.

In total he made 134 appearances for Forest, initially on loan then permanently. He also played 135 times for Sunderland and 102 for Newcastle.
