Manchester City will welcome back Jack Grealish to the club’s training ground this week as the England international begins individual training at the City Football Academy.
The return of Grealish does little to clear up uncertainty surrounding his future, with the winger still in limbo despite a summer of mounting speculation and background discussions between clubs.
Grealish was not part of the group that was selected for duty at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this summer, and now looks set to undergo a period of solo training until a clearer pathway emerges — either back into Pep Guardiola’s plans or towards a move elsewhere.
Manchester City are believed to be open to facilitating a loan exit for the former Aston Villa captain, particularly if the right club and financial structure can be found to satisfy all parties involved in a deal.
The club are likely to view a permanent transfer as challenging due to Jack Grealish’s high wages and their own valuation on the player, while a series of soft enquiries have been made in recent weeks with none having advanced to the stage of concrete negotiations.
Interest from within the Premier League has been documented, although salary, injury record, and recent lack of form are being weighed heavily by interested parties. Even clubs abroad are struggling to build a compelling case for the deal, while Grealish now places his focus on maintaining his best physical standards ahead of the new campaign.
According to the information of The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Jack Grealish has now agreed to return to Manchester City this week to train individually – at least until the main group return – as he waits on a move away from the club.
With regards to transfer talk thus far around the 29-year-old, the report details that there has been interest from the Premier League and overseas, with figures at West Ham having discussed a loan move for the forward.
However, it is stressed that any offer from the London Stadium could yet depend on the future of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta and the opinion of head coach Graham Potter.
Further afield, Napoli manager Antonio Conte is said to like Jack Grealish and wants to sign a left-sided attacker, but the Manchester City star’s salary would be an issue for the Italian champions and they also have other targets.
Grealish’s situation has become one of the most unpredictable elements of City’s summer, particularly given his lack of involvement in the closing months of the 2024/25 campaign.
The club’s all-time record signing has since fallen down the pecking order as City look to freshen up their wide options, with Rayan Cherki arriving from Lyon and Phil Foden looking to shine in more advanced roles after his own underwhelming campaign last time out.
While the idea of a move to West Ham seemed to gather momentum earlier this week, one report pointed towards club sources who indicated that a deal would be unlikely due to concerns over the player’s profile.
Manchester City have no urgent need to offload Jack Grealish but remain receptive to discussions — particularly if clubs are willing to take on a large share of the attacker’s wages. If a move fails to materialise before the new season, the expectation is that Grealish will remain a fringe figure unless a dramatic shift occurs in his physical sharpness or tactical role.
