Nottingham Forest have a timely lift before Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Aston Villa, as defender Jair Cunha returned to training.

According to Nottingham Post, Ibrahim Sangare and Dan Ndoye did not take part, instead working individually indoors at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

Fellow centre-back Murillo was absent after a suspected hamstring problem in the 4-1 victory over Burnley, and had already all but been ruled out of Thursday’s game.

Jair had come off in Friday’s 5-0 win at Sunderland, with head coach Vitor Pereira saying he was concerned about the Brazilian.

There was no sign of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Nicolo Savona or John Victor, whose seasons have ended early. Willy Boly remains ineligible after missing the Europa League and Premier League squads for the second half of the season.

The open session featured loud music and light-hearted drills, Ola Aina even broke into a jig. Club ambassador John McGovern watched on as several academy players joined in.

The tie begins at the City Ground at 8pm, with the return at Villa Park next week and a place in next month’s Istanbul showpiece at stake.

Pereira is due to provide an update this afternoon, and will aim to extend an eight-match unbeaten run when Villa visit.
