Speaking at his pre-match press conference (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Jamal Musiala could make his comeback on Saturday.

When asked about the availability of the 22-year-old, Kompany said:

“If everything goes well today, Jamal will be there tomorrow. That’s great for him.”

Musiala has been out for 195 days following a broken leg suffered in the Club World Cup quarter-final loss to PSG in the summer following a challenge from then goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

On the 22-year-old, Kompany added:

“He exudes a lot of positive energy. At the moment, even the little things are great. You appreciate everything much more. Jamal is experiencing that right now, as is Alphonso Davies. I want to protect both of them. The priority right now is integration. At some point, they’ll reach the level they were at before their injuries. When you play all the time, your fitness comes from playing. Now he’s had time to rebuild his body, strengthen his mobility and speed. That’s why injuries give you time to come back even stronger”

Musiala had an injury hit 2025 after a muscular injury meant he missed the business end of Bayern’s season, before returning for the Club World Cup in the USA, where he would then break his leg.

Along with his friend, Alphonso Davies, the pair have worked on their recovery and will now focus on returning to full fitness and strength.

Where will Musiala fit in at Bayern now?

Who would have thought this would be a question?

But, without Musiala, Bayern have been performing at a very high level. The German international’s absence has allowed Harry Kane to evolve into a non-traditional striker, Michael Olise has continued to perform at a very high level and new signing Luis Diaz has hit the ground running since his arrival from Liverpool.

Most importantly, Musiala’s injury has allowed the emergence of Lennart Karl. It will be up to Kompany to try to find a way to fit and give all these players meaningful game time.

However, Musiala must first get up to fitness, which will take some time.
