James Morrison says West Brom working hard on signings, ‘clearly we need’ a right-back | OneFootball

According to ExpressAndStar.com, James Morrison insisted Albion are working hard to strengthen the squad with two weeks until the season starts, acknowledging the need for additions out wide and at right-back.

A fringe side lost 3-1 to League One newcomers Notts County in a training-ground friendly earlier on Saturday, before a stronger XI won 4-1 at League Two Shrewsbury Town in front of 3,200 travelling supporters.

Left-back Conor Townsend rejoined on Friday night as the club’s fifth summer signing, yet Morrison’s options remain short of two wingers and a right-back, with further depth also targeted. He said the club are aligned and working hard behind the scenes to bring players in.

Albion were linked on Saturday night with French right-back Nolan Galvez, 23, of Ligue 2 side Rodez, with Southampton also said to be interested. QPR and Millwall have been linked this summer, as have Young Boys and OGC Nice. The Baggies have also been interested in a deal to bring back Danny Imray.

On the right-back search, Morrison said: “Clearly we need a right-back. I’m not going to get drawn into talking about a player at a different club.” He added that it is not easy, but there is hard work going on behind the scenes.

Having recorded two 4-1 wins in a little over a week, Albion begin away to another fourth-tier side, Rotherham United, in the EFL Cup on 8 August.
