James Tavernier has emerged as the latest out-of-contract target for Wolves as they plan a summer rebuild aimed at Championship promotion, with the Rangers full back confirming he will end his 11-year stint at Ibrox.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Wolves view the 34-year-old as a potential option, though a move is not guaranteed, and Tottenham have also been credited with interest.
A Newcastle academy graduate who took in several loans in England before Rangers, Tavernier has won multiple domestic trophies and produced remarkable numbers for a full back, regularly hitting double figures for goals and assists, driven by penalties, free kicks and corners.
With Wolves aiming to dominate the Championship and already boasting top marksman Adam Armstrong, adding a defender with that production could provide a major lift to Rob Edwards’ squad. His attacking instincts often see him operate almost as an extra winger or midfielder.
Leadership has been a concern at Wolves over the past two seasons, and Tavernier has been credited as a strong dressing-room figure. Steven Gerrard, who made him captain at Ibrox, believes Rangers will struggle to replace his unique output and loyalty, noting he stayed for 11 years despite chances to move on.
Former manager Mark Warburton also highlights his character and delivery, noting how his dangerous deliveries can lift a crowd even without a goal, and describing him as thick-skinned and outstanding for Rangers.
