Jamie Gittens looks set to join Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window after reportedly agreeing terms with the Premier League club.

The 20-year-old was on top of the Blues’ three-man shortlist for a new right-footed left winger, which included Alejandro Garnacho and Nico Williams.

The move comes after Chelsea decided not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal from Manchester United and while uncertainty reigns over Mikhailo Mudryk’s future.

Chelsea have agreed a seven-year contract with Gittens, but have not yet come to agreement on the transfer fee with Dortmund, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The west London outfit, who have been long time admirers of the young attacker, “submitted an official proposal” to the Bundesliga side, who see the player’s sale as “key” to their summer rebuild under manager Nico Kovacs. It’s previously been reported that a transfer will cost around €50 million (£42.5m).

Gittens is “keen” on moving to Stamford Bridge ahead of next season and could even complete the transfer in time for the Fifa Club World Cup if both sides agree on a deal before Tuesday’s deadline.

Bayern Munich were previously said to be interested in the winger, who has also played as an attacking midfielder, but have not put in a bid of their own.

Gittens rejected the opportunity to join Chelsea while he was at Reading’s academy before eventually joining Manchester City’s youth setup.

The youngster moved to Dortmund in 2020 and made his Bundesliga debut two years later. He appeared as a late substitute in the 2024 Uefa Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, replacing Sancho.

Gittens enjoyed a breakthrough season for Dortmund in 2024/25, scoring 12 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.
