Jamie Vardy will leave Cremonese this summer. His one-year deal included an extension if the club stayed up, but they finished in Serie A’s relegation zone. Since the season ended, he has confirmed he will not return to Leicester City and has cooled talk of Sheffield Wednesday.

Asked about going back to Hillsborough, he replied: "In short, no." He said this on the 'Jamie Vardy's Having A Party' podcast.

"It's one of them things, I've always said once I was let go, that chapter was kind of shut. That's just me, that's how I am. It wasn't meant to be so it's never meant to be. I just can't see it happening if I'm honest."

Sheffield Wednesday are under new ownership after a difficult couple of years and will play in League One alongside Leicester City next season.

David Nugent, Vardy's former Leicester strike partner, joked the pair could reunite at Anstey Nomads, where he plays with ex-City goalkeeper Conrad Logan. "I can. I think I can [see a move to Sheffield Wednesday happening] because of the takeover, the fans are back on side and there's a feel good factor," he said.

He added: "For me, he's got two options. He either signs for Sheffield Wednesday or comes and signs for Anstey Nomads." Vardy responded: "I can't go to Anstey at the minute, they've already started pre-season. I'm not doing that!"
