Jan Paul Van Hecke joins Tottenham in deal worth close to €60m | OneFootball

Tottenham have completed the signing of defender Jan Paul Van Hecke from Brighton in a deal worth close to €60m. The Netherlands international will join Spurs after the World Cup.

The club said in a statement on Thursday that the 26-year-old has signed following four seasons at Brighton.

He has an excellent relationship with the head coach and is eager to work with him again. Micky van de Ven has spoken positively about the club, and he is keen to get started.

Van Hecke played under Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton for two seasons and is a Netherlands team-mate of Van de Ven. At Brighton since 2022, he was a regular starter last season, making 36 Premier League appearances.

Tottenham are reshaping their back line after bringing in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers. Van Hecke arrives to bolster a defence that avoided relegation only on the final day in 2025-2026 and conceded 122 goals across the last two league seasons.
