Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of Real Madrid’s top targets as they desperately look to shore up their ranks in the defensive unit.

With Dani Carvajal ruled out for the season due to a long-term injury, Real Madrid have struggled to find a reliable option at right-back and that is where Alexander-Arnold comes into the picture.

The Liverpool star’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season, making him an appealing target for Real Madrid.

Although a Bosman move could be on the cards, Real Madrid have shown the desire to sign the Englishman in the ongoing January transfer window by paying Liverpool a certain fee.

January move ruled out for Alexander-Arnold

However, after weeks of speculation, the possibility of a January move for Trent Alexander-Arnold has now been ruled out, reports Cadena SER.

It appears Liverpool consider the Englishman too important to be sold in January, especially considering the fact that the Reds are in contention of winning the quadruple this season.

The Merseyside giants are leading the Premier League table while they have done well in the Champions League as well.

Keeping that in mind, Alexander-Arnold will continue at Anfield until the end of the season, regardless of whether or not he extends his contract.

Liverpool have full faith in the services of young Conor Bradley, but the Reds ideally want to sign a proven replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

This factor has been crucial in further convincing Liverpool to keep hold of the right-back until the end of the season, despite the best attempts of Real Madrid.

That said, the possibility of a summer move to Santiago Bernabeu remains a wide-open possibility for the English international, as he looks to take the next step in his career.
