Flamengo remain in the market for a centre-forward, though the arrival of Leonardo Jardim is expected to influence how the club go about that search. He has already discussed the need for a signing in that role with the board.
According to Globo.com, Flamengo were unable to sign one before the first international window closed on 3 March. Budget limits after buying Lucas Paquetá and a focus on proven targets made punts unlikely.
Under Filipe Luís, the profile was set and heavyweight options were pursued, including Kaio Jorge, Taty Castellanos and Richarlison. No talks advanced.
With Jardim, the approach should differ. He is more flexible and will lean on scouting to present options. The club are also monitoring the domestic scene, as rules allow signings of players who played in the state championships until 27 March. Any move will depend on his demands.
The main push will come in the second window, when a marquee addition remains possible. Until then, Jardim has identified Bruno Henrique and youngster Wallace Yan as options alongside Pedro.
After Sunday’s Carioca title win, he noted the long calendar and the strain on a lone striker. He praised Pedro’s effort and said the forward tired after the break. He added that Wallace Yan will get chances there and Bruno Henrique is another option. If, in time, they can recruit a specialist to avoid further improvisation, they will, he said, because the workload at Flamengo is relentless.
