Jean-Philippe Mateta rejects contract extension offer from Crystal Palace | OneFootball

As he approaches his 29th birthday, Jean-Philippe Mateta (28) is undoubtedly at a turning point in his career. And although his contract with Crystal Palace keeps him at the club until June 2027, his future at the London side beyond this summer is far from certain.

According to Sky Sports, the French international (three caps, two goals) is reported to have recently turned down a contract extension offer from the club’s management, who are now reluctant to reopen negotiations in an attempt to persuade the Sevran-born player to stay. Or at least not just yet.

Close to joining AC Milan last winter, Mateta ultimately saw his transfer fall through after knee problems were discovered. Following surgery, the Olympique Lyonnais academy graduate finally returned to the pitch in mid-March, before finding the back of the net again in April.

And whilst he now aims to secure a place in the France squad for the World Cup, Mateta could be heading for pastures new as early as next summer, although only a satisfactory offer would convince his management to let him leave Selhurst Park in the coming weeks.
