Benjamin Sesko scored a crucial stoppage-time goal to secure all three points for Manchester United against Fulham.
Introduced in the 74th minute, Sesko nearly scored with his first touch, sending a header onto the post. The youngster did not lose his composure and made no mistake with his second chance, bagging a massive goal for his confidence.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed several promising cameo appearances at United. However, it is not far-fetched to say the Slovenian youngster is not ready to start every game for the Red Devils, especially if they intend to compete on all fronts next season.
United are likely to spend lavishly on their midfield in the summer. As such, they might be compelled to explore cheaper options for the central forward role.
According to The Mirror, “a huge and unexpected transfer opportunity” has emerged for United, who are considered long-term admirers of Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The Crystal Palace striker was extremely close to joining AC Milan, but his deadline day switch to San Siro fell apart after he failed a medical.
Still, Palace signed Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers to replace the 28-year-old Frenchman, leaving his future in South London in doubt.
It is suggested that this dramatic twist could create an opening for United, who have leaned towards signing Premier League-proven players under the INEOS leadership.
Standing at six feet and four inches tall, Mateta has scored 10 goals across all competitions this term.
Palace agreed to sell their powerful forward for £30 million to Milan. With his current contract at Selhurst Park due to expire in 2027, United could “look to secure his services at a cut price.”
One player who certainly would not be available at a discount price at the end of the season is Mateta’s teammate, Adam Wharton.
On Wednesday, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid have all opened “preliminary talks” for the technically gifted midfielder.
It is believed Palace have slapped a €95m price tag on Wharton’s head.
