Jefté has undergone surgery on his right knee and is expected to return for Palmeiras only at the end of the season.

According to Globo.com, the left-back was injured in the 1-0 win over Chapecoense in the Campeonato Brasileiro, the final round before the World Cup pause.

Scans detected a meniscus injury in his right knee, and he required a suture.

He reported knee pain on Monday while at hospital with his wife for the birth of their first child, then, after a few days at home, had the operation on Sunday.

Jefté has made 14 appearances this season, one more than last term, when he joined Palmeiras.

Despite team-mates being on holiday, he will start his rehabilitation in the coming days at the club’s Núcleo de Saúde e Performance (NSP).
