Andrée Jeglertz says Mary Fowler is ‘not that far away’ from a return, with Sydney Lohmann also progressing well in her recovery.
Fowler has been sidelined since rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament in April but recently returned to modified training as her recovery steps up.
Lohmann, meanwhile, was a late substitute in our 6-1 win over Aston Villa, but her last 90 minutes came almost two months ago in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest.
And while our Head Coach admitted it was too soon for both to return to action, he added that they’re both on the right track.
He said: “Mary has been with us for a couple sessions now. A little modified, but she’s training well with the team. She’s on her way.
“She’s been working hard for a long time and the last step is the difficult one where she wants to push and we want to push but the performance team need to make sure we do it in a good way.
“She’s not ready yet, but hopefully pretty soon and not that far away.
“Sydney has been on the pitch a couple days now and is in a good place.
“She wants to be back as soon as possible. She’s been modified and not in team training but hopefully next week.
“We’ll see how she responds today and tomorrow.”
Jeglertz also shared a positive update on Aoba Fujino, who’s been ruled out since picking up an injury against Villa in our final home game before the winter break against Villa.
The Japan international is still currently in individual training but our Head Coach said she’s making daily progress in her return to action.
“It’s one of those where we also of course would like to have her available for the games. It’s the same thing there [as Fowler and Lohmann],” he said.
“She’s training on her own still, hopefully she can be part of team training next week.
“It depends how she reacts and the performance team is progressing every day with what works and what doesn’t. From there, we can push into team training.”
