Andrée Jeglertz has called for patience around when Sam Coffey will make her City debut, but says the midfielder is already showing what she can do in training.
The US international joined the Club earlier this week from Portland Thorns, where she’d been named in the NWSL Best XI for 2025.
Coffey was in training for the first time on Wednesday and, with the NWSL season ending in November, Jeglertz says he’ll be patient in gradually integrating her into the squad.
However, our Head Coach has been impressed by what he’s seen so far from our new midfielder.
“She’s integrated very well. She’s very open and the players in this group are good at taking care of new players and she’s fitted in well.
“She’s been off for a while during December. We need to be clever with how we use her in the coming weeks.
“Of course, I want her on the field as quickly as possible, [but] at the same time, we need to be clever in how we do this.
“She’s been a little modified in sessions and we need to take it slowly. [But] we’ve seen her quality already. This will be good.”

Jeglertz also spoke about what qualities Coffey can bring that will take City to another level.
The Blues sit six points clear at the WSL summit and our Head Coach has consistently praised the squad’s attitude and efforts across the campaign.
However, he believes Coffey, who captained Portland Thorns, can help to maintain the high standards already in place at City.
“There’s something with USA players that I really like, their energy. She has leadership in her and intensity in how she is playing and training,” he said.
“That is something that we definitely can help us grow. We have a lot of great players individuals and we work good as a team now.
“We need sometimes a little more energy in training sessions and more American way of communicating. We are a quiet team and that’s something we can use.
“Her as a player, great passing player, covering a lot of ground, defending aggressive, a lot of things in her that will fit well into our team.”
