Two months after being confronted by supporters in Nice and taking sick leave, Jeremie Boga has reignited his season at Juventus, on loan until the end.
"In the first two weeks I lost weight because I was not eating much. It was a difficult period I want to forget. Juventus has been a blessing," he told DAZN shortly after arriving on 30 January.
During his absence he built a programme with a nutritionist, chef and fitness coach to maintain body fat and muscle tone. A detailed dossier was later sent to Juventus.
With Dusan Vlahovic out since late November, Luciano Spalletti used a false nine. In the 1-0 win over Udinese last Saturday, Kenan Yildiz set up Boga for the only goal. "We had to get him back into shape, but his power meant he found form quickly," Spalletti said.
His assist in the 2-2 draw with Lazio on 8 February and his goal in the 3-3 at Roma on 1 March had already snatched points. He is delivering a goal or assist every 69 minutes for Juventus, compared with 226 at Nice. The €4.8m option to buy should be a formality, with the loan free and wages covered.
At 29, this feels like the level many forecast when he scored 11 for Sassuolo in 2019-2020. Juventus face Sassuolo on Saturday at 20:45. "I had difficulties finding continuity. I think I have reached full maturity, but I learned a lot at Atalanta and Nice," he told Sky last weekend.
