Liverpool have been dealt a major injury setback, with Jeremie Frimpong set to miss around six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury (h/t Daily Mail).
The Liverpool right-back picked up the problem during the 5-1 Europa League win over Eintracht Frankfurt last week and has since missed two matches.
It is the second time this season that Frimpong has been sidelined with a hamstring issue for the Reds.
He also missed two games earlier in the campaign after limping off against Bournemouth in August.
Signed in the summer, the 24-year-old has endured a stop-start to life at Liverpool.
His latest setback is a massive blow to Liverpool boss Arne Slot, whose side has suffered six defeats in their last seven matches and is under serious pressure to steady the ship.
Frimpong is unlikely to feature for the Merseyside outfit before mid-December.
He will miss fixtures against Aston Villa this weekend, as well as Real Madrid in the Champions League and Manchester City in the league, before the international break.
After the break, Liverpool face a hectic run of six games in 17 days, including meetings with Nottingham Forest, PSV Eindhoven, West Ham United, Sunderland, Leeds United and Inter Milan.
He will likely be back after the clash with the Italian giants, potentially missing as many as 10 games.
The Dutchman, who has been lauded as a ‘top performer’, was brought in as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s long-term successor at right-back.
However, he has also been trialled in advanced positions on the right flank, with Slot viewing him as a deputy for Mohamed Salah during the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
In Frimpong’s absence, Liverpool may turn to Joe Gomez, Dominik Szoboszlai or Wataru Endo to fill the gap at right-back.
Meanwhile, young Calvin Ramsay, who impressed in the Carabao Cup, could finally get a chance to stake his claim for a first-team role.
