Jérémy Jacquet to have shoulder surgery before Liverpool move | OneFootball

Jérémy Jacquet will have surgery on his left shoulder this week after being injured in Rennes’ 1-3 defeat at Lens on 7 February, a setback that could curtail his farewell before a summer move to Liverpool.

According to L'Équipe, the 20-year-old centre-back left in the 66th minute clutching his shoulder after an innocuous moment in his own box, and Liverpool, his future club, have been kept in the loop during three weeks of tests that aimed to avoid an operation.

The recovery timeline depends on the procedure. A doctor with Ligue 1 experience estimated that if the problem is instability, roughly five months are needed to resume full contact, around four with a faster programme and six with a slower one.

By comparison, Marseille forward Amine Gouiri had shoulder surgery on 20 October and returned on 4 January, about two and a half months later, sooner than expected.

Jacquet is due to join the Reds on 1 July. Rennes and the champions of England agreed at the end of the winter window a summer transfer worth around €70m, after Chelsea had made a move, and Habib Beye hinted targets would need to be scaled back if he departed.

Since his injury and Beye’s exit, Rennes have shifted from a back five to a back four under interim Sébastien Tambouret and then Franck Haise. Anthony Rouault and Lilian Brassier have become the preferred pairing, with Abdhelhamid Aït Boudlal and Alidu Seidu as options.

Jacquet joined Rennes’ academy in 2019 after an earlier trial ended with a shoulder dislocation. He has made 32 appearances since February 2025 after a loan at Clermont in Ligue 2, also featuring for France Under-21s.
