Jesús Vázquez targets starting role at Valencia after busiest season | OneFootball

Jesús Vázquez has just completed his busiest season with Valencia and wants to challenge José Luis Gayà for the left-back role next term. Carlos Corberán has trusted him in key fixtures and his form improved towards the finish.

According to AS, Vázquez ended his fifth year in the first team with close to 1,000 minutes across 24 appearances. He played the final two matches at a high level, sparking debate among supporters over who should start at Mestalla.

He extended his contract to 2028, underlining the confidence of the club and Corberán. Despite interest from several clubs about a summer move, he remains focused on Valencia.

While the squad are on holiday, Vázquez has been training at the Ciudad Deportiva de Paterna to arrive in the best possible shape for pre-season.

Gayà has been first choice on the left and intends to remain so. The captain visited the training ground this week to assess a muscle injury suffered a month ago that prevented him finishing the season. The plan is for both to start pre-season with the team and be fully fit for the start of LaLiga.
