Palmeiras reconvened on Wednesday morning at the Academia de Futebol after a 1-1 draw with Guarani. New signing Jhon Arias completed his first full session with the group, having been presented on Friday 13.
According to Nosso Palestra, Abel Ferreira’s staff led muscle activation, tactical drills and game simulations, then a small-sided technical exercise with two teams.
Already through to the Campeonato Paulista quarter-finals with the second-best overall record, Verdão face Capivariano at 20:30 on Saturday 21 at Arena Crefisa Barueri.
Midfielder Mauricio reflected that the team are enjoying a very good spell, with individual and collective growth, and that strong daily work has brought results. The No 18 has 83 appearances and 16 goals, with eight games and two this season.
He also discussed securing Paraguayan citizenship, ratified by FIFA last week, saying the process began a year ago and reflects his paternal roots. Part of his father’s family is Paraguayan, his late grandmother was Paraguayan, and his father spent his childhood and adolescence there before returning to Brazil for work.
Mauricio added he pursued the paperwork last year on his own with guidance from Gómez. He is happy it has been approved, sees it as another option, and noted any Paraguay chance depends on performing well for Palmeiras and reflects a strong family bond.
