Palmeiras announced on Saturday that it had signed 28-year-old forward Jhon Arias from Wolves on a deal to December 2029. He has since been registered on the CBF’s BID, clearing him to play.
The transfer is worth about €25 million, approximately R$155 million. Arias is expected in Brazil at the end of this week.
He could make his debut in the Campeonato Paulista quarter-finals, scheduled for 21 and 22 February.
Palmeiras had pursued Arias since his Fluminense days, when the Rio club were reluctant to strengthen a domestic rival with their standout player. Fluminense also competed in the current move.
At Wolverhampton since the end of the Club World Cup, Arias had a clause granting Fluminense first refusal in the event of a sale. When Palmeiras tabled their offer, Fluminense were notified but could not match or exceed it.
With the path clear, Palmeiras reached agreement with Arias and his representatives to complete the deal. At the English club he wore the number 10 and made 29 appearances, scoring two goals.
