It has now been reported that Joan Garcia is now ‘on track’ to sign for Newcastle United at the end of the season.

The very reliable Spanish journalist Angel Garcia has said that all of the information he has found after looking into the potential deal, points to the 24 year old goalkeeper set to sign for Newcastle United.

A number of clubs have shown interest in Joan Garcia, including PSG, Arsenal and Barcelona, but the journalist understands that it is St James’ Park where the Espanyol keeper is heading to, with Newcastle United now pushing ahead with a deal according to his sources.

Joan Garcia has played every minute of all 36 La Liga matches this season appears to have helped Espanyol avoid relegation, with two games left to play and Espanyol five points clear of the bottom three.

Outside of the top six in La Liga, only five clubs have conceded less goals that the 49 Joan Garcia has conceded in 36 league matches this season, playing for relegation battling Espanyol.

The young keeper has represented Spain at every level up to and including Under 21, whilst also having been part of the Under 23s squad that won Olympic gold in 2024.

Joan Garcia has a a release clause figure of €25m (approx £21m) and is a 6ft 3 tall keeper who is described as ideal for the Premier League, with a very good all round game and physicality, as well as good ability with his feet.

I think it is crystal clear that Newcastle United will be bringing in a new goalkeeper this summer to compete with Nick Pope next season. Only yesterday we reported on L’Equipe claiming that Newcastle had made an approach for Yahia Fofana, the Angers keeper and number one for Ivory Coast has been an ever present in Ligue 1 this season, is also 24 years old and has a release clause of around £8m.

La Grada Radio report – 16 May 2025:

‘This Friday, La Grada Radio brought in a prominent voice to address one of the most worrying topics for Espanyol fans: the future of Joan García . Journalist Ángel García, known on social media as Cazurreando and a nationally renowned source of market information and renowned for his exceptional accuracy, appeared on the program to discuss Newcastle ‘s interest in the Blue and White goalkeeper, which he himself expressed yesterday.

According to the information shared, the English club would be willing to pay Joan ‘s full release clause , set at 25 million euros. A decisive step that would position Newcastle as the leading candidate to secure the Catalan goalkeeper’s services, despite the fact that his name has also been linked to other major European clubs, such as FC Barcelona and Arsenal .

What’s relevant in this case is the source. Ángel García is no ordinary journalist. His track record in advancing market transactions, both in the First Division and in the lower divisions, is extensive and proven. He’s usually one step ahead of the rest, and his information is based on direct contacts with people very close to the moves that ultimately materialize.

Joan García , who has been one of Espanyol ‘s pillars this season, has put together high-level performances and has proven he’s ready to make the leap to a demanding environment. The Premier League, given his playing style and physical demands, would be a perfect fit for his qualities: security between the sticks, personality, good footwork, and leadership ability in key moments.

“The information I’m receiving is quite reliable from the source; if not, I wouldn’t be so involved,” he made clear on La Grada Radio , aware of the impact of talking about a player from the First Division and not from his usual environment. “I don’t know if he’s signed or pending, but everything is very much on track,” he added.

Ángel explained that he’s been in contact with people who handle direct information from the Premier League, and “no matter how much there was talk about Arsenal and the Top 6, they told me I wasn’t going to sign there as a starter.” And he made a clear statement: “You go to Newcastle on an equal footing with other goalkeepers, not like at other Top 6 clubs where you started out as a substitute.”

Even with PSG looming at the last minute, according to the journalist: “I asked people close to Joan himself , and they told me that, despite PSG’s interference, he was going to go to England. And after consulting them, I agreed with that authority.”

Ángel García also made clear the reason for his caution before launching the exclusive: “Making mistakes in the lower divisions, where I consider myself a specialist, doesn’t have as much impact as talking about the First Division. That’s why I went crazy checking things out beforehand.”
